Lets Help Kids Celebrates 5 Years of Helping Kids with its Annual Dual Gala hosted by Artisphere in Arlington, Virginia February 28

Fairfax, Virginia (PRWEB) February 10, 2015

It takes a special six-year-old to start a charity in order to help other children, so it stands to reason that the Lets Help Kids Foundation (LHK) now celebrating five years of bringing happiness to children will put on a special benefit gala.

Five years ago when I started this organization with my mom, I wanted kids who didnt have a lot of the things I did to feel special and happy. Our dual kids and parent gala is the best party around because its fun for everyone and it raises money and attention to help even more kids in 2015, says Rachel Harris, Lets Help Kids 11-year-old co-founder.

The Lets Help Kids 5th birthday celebration dual gala will raise money for kids in the metro area. The funds raised will provide toys, bikes, and other special request items that make childhood memorable all year long, not just during the holiday season.

This years family friendly event celebrates the charitys five years of service to the community and will be hosted by Artisphere in Arlington, Virginia. Best of all, kids are on the guest list providing a babysitter-free evening and a chance to teach children the value of helping others, while also having a great time.

This gala is the perfect family event, says Jen Sterling, the foundation mom and co-founder. Everyone is looking for some warmth and happiness in winter and we feel this is the best time of year to celebrate kids and give families the chance to make a real difference in their community.

Filament Games Unveils Backyard Engineers at TCEA 2015

MADISON, Wis. (PRWEB) February 05, 2015

The education gaming landscape continues to take shape, and more teachers are looking to implement learning games that teach core subject areas. Filament Games, award-winning developer of educational games and curriculum, will announce the launch of Backyard Engineers at the 2015 TCEA Convention & Exposition in Austin, Texas. Designed to teach engineering concepts and problem solving skills, Backyard Engineers helps students from middle school to high school understand the principles of engineering design through experimentation.

In Backyard Engineers, players lead the charge into a water balloon battle with the kids next door. By designing and adjusting catapults to launch water balloons, students learn how manipulating mechanical components affects their catapults range and accuracy. Each level of the game is a unique puzzle that challenges players to find the fastest and most efficient way to soak their neighbors.

Backyard Engineers is designed to break down difficult mechanical design concepts into simple, easy-to-learn game mechanics, said Dan White, Filament Games co-founder and Chief Product Officer. This makes a complex subject like engineering much more approachable and enjoyable to learn.

Like all games designed by Filament Games, Backyard Engineers is aligned with state standards and requirements, including Benchmarks for Science Literacy, Next Generation Science Standards, Common Core State Standards and Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills.

Backyard Engineers will be available for purchase on February 18 through the Filament Learning Store. To learn more about Backyard Engineers and gaming in education, visit the Filament Games booth (#226) at TCEA.
